What is 4-H Entrepreneurship?

4-H Entrepreneurship is an opportunity grades 7-13 to learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur, develop a business idea, tour local businesses, and work with business experts! It's a great project for those wishing to explore more about the business world!

"Even if kids aren't planning on running a business, being involved in the Entrepreneurship project will expand their ability to keep their money and financials organized and under control." - Cora Demler, CEO of Cora's Busy Bees and member of York 4-H Club.

What is an Entrepreneur?

"An entrepreneur is one who assumes the risks of a business or enterprise. Entrepreneur is also used to describe someone who has an idea for a new product or service, or a way to improve how a business has done before." -Definition from "Be the e: entrepreneurship Activity Guide"

Chris

Bigg Valley Broilers
chicken

Business plan excerpt:  Small-scale poultry production business.  Chris already produces about 100 broiler chickens every year, and sells to family and friends.  He would like to expand his customers to other individuals, as well as restaurants.  Chris feels the business will succeed because there is no
local source of commercially-offered organic chicken.

Tommy

Tommy’s Turkey Tracking
turkey

Business plan excerpt:  Visit a business that will offer a turkey hunting guide service; Tommy’s Turkey Tracking, in rural Browntown, Wisconsin.  With plenty of experience through Hunter’s Education and other activities involving hunts, you will not be disappointed by this great outdoor adventure.  Hunting is a growing trend and turkey hunting is a great option due to the enlarged population of birds in this area.

Cora

Cora’s Busy Bees
bees

Business plan excerpt:  Cora’s Busy Bees is a business that sells honey and other bee products.  It is operated at local farmer’s markets and community events.  In order to improve, the business will need to expand and go to other locations, as well as get more efficient tools that are much more heavy-duty.  The purpose of this business is to provide the community with high-quality honey that is pure, and that has not been modified in any way.
